More Currencies for Donors

Hey Miranda, thanks for getting back. Agreed it has had a huge impact on our organization. I don't know how to fix it. I am not going to pressure our donors to match the currency difference. What I am going to do is protect our organization. This means I am going to redirect all our Canadian non-recurring donors away from GlobalGiving to a platform in Canada that we have access to. Although, we will continue to receive donations in CAD, we will not have an additional 15% taken away on top of the 25% already lost on GG from the currency exchange. Sorry to have to do this but it will change our whole profile on GlobalGiving. Sad after all these years.

Well guys, our Year End Campaign is getting drastically reduced because of exchange rates on the Canadian Dollar. People are donating the same numbers. e.g. $100 CAD instead $100 USD so we are getting 25% less from almost all Canadian donors of which we have many. This will make a huge impact on our budget. So that wasn't really a good strategy. In fact, we will have to consider to redirect all our Canadian Donors next year to another platform because witht he currency exchange and the admin fee, we aren't getting what we could. Ideas?

No reaction to this although I have tried many routes to bring this issue up. Waiting...............

DARE Network: Hi Pam, so sorry for the late reply. Across the site, we've seen higher conversion rates for Canadian donors since we've added CAD, and have tried to clearly label currencies on the project page and checkout. What else could we do to make this more clear for your donors?

Miranda Cleland: Hi Again. yes late. You are right, donors from Canada are converting to CAD. But the effect of this for longterm one-time donors is that instead of donating for example $100 USD, they are now donation $100 CAD converted to USD is around $75.00, so from before for each of these Canadian donors we are losing 25% of their donation. It added up to alot. You can see it easily if you look through our donation history and compare. It was a very big loss for us. I hope you are getting the impact of this.

DARE Network: I certainly understand where you're coming from and realize this change had a large impact on your organization. We also have a responsibility make donating easy for donors, and have heard over the years, from both donors and nonprofit leaders, that additional currencies are one way to make giving easier.
Currency displays across the site depending on your location, meaning a Canadian donor would see a $100 USD donation option as $137 CAD on a project page. If you have any ideas on how to mitigate the conversion rate loss, we'd love to hear them.

Update: We have added Euros, Canadian Dollars (CAD), and Australian Dollars (AUD).

This is awesome! I want to see the Nigeria Naira. Most of the donations we received in Naira, was transferred through my card and my email was recorded instead of the the Donors. We can get more donations from our people, but most of them doesn't work with Master/Credit card. Thank you.

In our case, we are trying to encourage local giving (especially in Lesotho and South Africa) and it would be helpful if more ways of donating and more currencies were added to the platform. For example, many people in these countries use M-pesa for moving money.

Mexican pesos.
(1) Mexico has the 11th largest economy in the world by purchasing power parity. (2) As USA's southern neighbor, its business class + remains still mostly enthralled with all things USA, including giving US-based operations like GlobalGiving automatic trust, a competitive advantage over all like platforms. (3) Mexico remains the gateway between USA/Canada and Latin America, home to those global entities focused on the Americas. (4) New Mexican president López Obrador echos outgoing USA president chief of staff Kelly's often ignored but correct call for increased investment in countries like Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador as the only sustainable solution to slowing immigration without papers flows. (5) And GlobalGiving smartly recently brought on the whip-smart, able Maria Catalina Villalpando Paez as your Mexico lead to build out GG market share in Mexico.
Sooo, navigating the legal/regulatory challenges to accept Mexican pesos might just be a smart play by GG.

Brilliant news ! Will this also mean we can write projects in other languages to target French speakers for example ? Our organization is based in France and we would love to be able to reach out to our local community more via GlobalGiving which we love !
